On Fire #5

Sorry for the lack of updates. Been working on my zine and working stupid hours at a supermarket.
This here is the work of DX who fronts Straightjacket Nation and currently writes Distort. I believe this is just before he did Distort as the bands featured here are more closely aligned to the ones featured any any of his other old zines I have. This issue features interviews with No Hope For The Kids, Brisbane's finest export since The Saints; Draft Dodger, The Spitz, Sydney's Deadstare, rants, reviews and a Far Left Limit eulogy.
Look out for: a snap of Max (Agents of Abhorrence, Cut Sick) with a big curly mop of hair.

Oddly enough, last post I linked you to a blog which had uploaded some of Dave Koenig's old zines. Coincidently I've learnt that Dave himself does a blog very similar to this one uploading zines from all over the world. Beacuse of this, I might just keep this blog to exclusively uploading Australian zines to make it a little more unique. Visit the blog here and download the Hardware 'Omnibus', absolutely essential reading. I'm glad he took the time to upload his Hardware's as now I don't have to haha.

Just To Clarify

The idea to do this blog was not my own. Like all things in hardcore, it's just a rip of someone else's idea. So I've gotta give credit to Punks Is Hippies blog who I first saw doing it. Most of the stuff he uploads is crap personal zines or zines focusing on noise-punk bands but two standout posts were this and this. These gems here are the work of Dave Koenig who went on to do the classic HARDWARE fanzine with Brett Beach. It's short, sweet and intensely straight edge.

Mind Control #1

This here is a 28 page rager from a fellow named Josh who I believe played guitar in Hard Luck for their early days (don't quote me on this), he also had a part in releasing the Australia's Hardcore compilation 7" and did three issues of this zine. I think he pissed off overseas recently which is probably the reason Canberra's hardcore scene has gone to the shit with their 'best' export today being a well marketed 'bong-core' band who shall remain nameless. How lame.
Anyway, there is some great reading in here; interviews with Benchpress, an Infest re-print, No Apologies, a killer list of essential Boston records and reviews.
Look out for: Ringworm setlist from their last tour (holy fuck), Ringworm flyer for the Canberra show and the flyer for the No Aplogies 7" launch show where Carry On did a one off re-union show.
Also, sorry this file is so big. I don't understand why this one is three times the size of the other zines.

The Kids Will Have Their Say #1

Classic zine named after one of the best records of the '80's. This zine came out of Newcastle and I believe most of the writing was done by Luke Dolan (Arm's Reach, LLR, Dead Walk, WMD etc) in his over-the-top edge days and Clint of Shortfuse records. I managed to get this a couple of years back from Pete Bursky when he cleared out a heap of shit.
I'm not sure if there are any other issues of this zine but if there are I'd be very interested to see them. Anyway, this issue features interviews with Bare Knuckle Fight, NYHC legends Straight Ahead (not a re-print, legit), Blood Of Others, Impact Unit (legit), Project X (re-print), Right Idea, Eyeball, an Arm's Reach tour diary plus reviews. All of which provides for a great read and an interesting insight into what was considered the 'golden' era of the real NCHC. I think this dates back to around 1999 so it's fucking old. Essential reading. Enjoy.

STRAIGHT UP #1

This here is the product of Jay Blurter from Sydney. Suitably sub-titled 'The Shit Talkers Zine', this zine has plenty of it and goes about it in the least politically correct way possible.
Features interviews with Sydney legends Toe To Toe, Last Nerve (pre- No Apologies, Smash from the two Pete's), Strength Within, xBack On Trackx (feat. Gabe Delaine of Jungle Fever on vocals in his edge days) and Resist Records which aims to settle all rumours surrounding the label. This is a great read as Blurter speaks his mind and treads on many toes in the process. Enjoy.
P.S: Check out the Cro Mags flyer inside for their Australian tour. Shit!

Introduction

This blog is dedicated to uploading old fanzines from Australia and around the world. I guess I will scan them in and make them into PDF's so you can a) Download them and read on your computer or b) Download them, print them off an read it like a REAL fanzine.
I will focus mainly on Australian zines but also do a few that I have gathered from overseas.
I hoard zines; most are average/awful but once in while one will come about that is just spot on which makes me want to keep seeking out other zines. A common thread that separates the average zines from the great zines is the tendency to shit-talk and be honest. The zines that tip toe around 'scene' politics and advocate awful bands due to 'good dude' status are the ones that fall by the wayside.
Anyway enough guff from me, on with the upping...
